this can only have two reasons:
1) a problem with your router/firewall
or
2) your harddrive is locked at this moment. Not all disc-access in emule is done multithreaded, which means: if emule can't write/read to your harddrive the whole application waits. Have a look at your HDD LED when emule locks up again.

Thanks for quick answer,
1) I'm not using a 3rd party fw or windows fw. But I'm using portforwarded ports to 1100 TCP and 1000 UDP. I have an on board realtek ethernet card, maybe I have to update drivers and change the ports to the default ones.

2) My HDD isn't working when emule locks up. it seems idle, no sound or nothing indicates that it writes/reads. my HDD is IDE by the way.

If I can solve it I'll post it here. With this new information if you have new advices please share them with me .
Thanks

Great mod, but I have some issues with it that I hope can be adressed. I'm using eMule v0.46c Xtreme 4.7.1.

1. I copy my old eMule v0.30e's known.met file to Xtreme's config dir and it doesn't work, it just overwrites it from scratch. I don't want to lose my downloaded history, it's over 2 MB in size. If it's a problem of different formats (eMule 0.30e didn't support 'Cancelled' state), is there a program I can use that can convert it?

2. When I run eMule Xtreme, it just overwrites the log file (logs\emule.log) instead of appending or renaming it with the date (emule_yyyymmddhhmmss.log).

3. Sometimes the process crashes, and it asks if I want to create a dump file (eMule 0.46c Xtreme 4.7.1.dmp), but even if I click Yes, it's always 0 bytes.

4. Log files and other files like download.txt have a 0x00 byte between each character. Why?? It makes the logs impossible to read with Notepad, and they double the filesize. Also, newlines use only a line feed, without a carriage return which is what Windows uses (CRLF).

Thanks a lot for any help.

1. <- The Format of the known.met file have changed between the old version 0.30 and 0.46c. I know no tool to transform the old known.met in a new one and i think there isn't such a tool.

2. <- I have tested. If i deaktivate/aktivate the log file then it will appending the new lines in the "eMule_Verbose.log" file.

3. <- Can't say anything ... i haven't ever a crash with the Xtreme.

4. <- My log files and download.txt looks normal with the Notepad. Mmm, maybe an adjustment on your system?

Xman 7. January 2006 18:21

1. Yes, since some versions, the format of known.met has been changed (same in official version). As I remember, you don't loose your downloaded history, but your current shared files must be rehashed one time.

2. hmm.. for me it works correctly.

3. You should use the lates version (4.8.1)... I fixed some crash-reasons. But maybe you have any critical crash, where even no dumpfile can help me. It seems few users have some incompatibility with emule and their computer.

4. What OS are you using ? It seems you have an UNICODE-problem. That is no bug of emule, but an incompatibilty with your OS.

Because of the limitation of connections by WinMe is the WinXP a better choice, and with higher upload you earn more credit and therefore should be a better download.

I kept using the official eMule v0.30e for too long I guess. Do you think it would work if I download the first version of eMule that implemented the new format (was it v0.40?)? Maybe then it will convert the old format to the new one.

Don't worry about that, it very rarely crashes without me doing something stupid. :oops But one crash that always happened was when I had a huge ipfilter.dat (9 MB). I couldn't even start Xtreme with that ipfilter. Now it's 3 MB and it doesn't crash.

I'm using Win98SE. I see what the problem is now. Is there no way to make Xtreme use standard 7-bit (or Extended 8-bit) ASCII? I'm not the only one who doesn't use an OS that supports Unicode!

Xman 13. January 2006 18:48

- you don't need any official 0.40 version (or other).. simply use your old known.met and wait until the shared files are rehashed

- downgrading to a non unicode-version would be contraproductiv... if you are using Win98 you need the uni-layer:
Microsoft Unicode-Layer für Windows 95/98/ME Systeme (MSLU) version 1.0

Hi Xman, and hi to the regular users of this board,

I'd like to report what seem to be a (minor) bug that keep annoying me for a couple of days, since i downloaded the lastest Xtreme 4.8.1. The mod is running on a standalone machine dedicated to P2p, together with Azureus and Kaspersky antivirus.

system specs : Xp3000+ / 1Gb RAM / Maxtor 160go / french adsl providing 3000down - 800up

The probleme is as follow : First i get the emule windows on full screen, then ask to minimize it, but it won't. Odd enough, the emule windows can "reduce one level" with no problem, but it simply won't minimize in the task bar. Note that the other non-emule windows and applications work as usual.... The problems occurs only after hours/days of intense work.

anything comparable reported in the german bug section so far ?

greetings for this great mod ! :dance

Xman 14. January 2006 23:55

I already read such a thing at the official emule forum. It's seems to be a bug at official version which hopefully will be fixed with emule 0.47.

Xtrem enthousiast 15. January 2006 00:59

you brought a new light over my problem, thx Xman :)

No need to downgrade, just add an ASCII option. That would be great. I already have that Unicode layer, but I still can't read my logfiles with Notepad... Also, another downside about using a 2-byte charset is that the files take double the space.

May I request an ASCII or UTF-8 option? I think that would be a very welcome addition to most people that don't use WinNT.

Xman 17. January 2006 13:21

hmm.. for me it wokred with my old known.met ... but you can try it with the official version.

I don't want to code a ASCII-option, because windows < windowsNT isn't recommended for emule at all.
